Northumberland Lightning American Football Team

The Northumberland Lightning American Football Club are now heading into our 2nd full year. We have grown rapidly and are continually looking for anyone interested in playing, coaching or just helping out in any way. There will be plenty of exciting news and events as we head on into 2014.

The club has it's home ground at Ashington Rugby Club in Northumberland which will be the clubs home for the next two years.

06/04/14 - The Northumberland Thunder Flag Football team took part in it's first ever competative tournament. The Thunder took on the Calderdale Knights, Sheffield Vipers and Newcastle Blackhawks in the inaugural 'Flag on the Tyne' tournament.

It was a hard day for our young squad, and a great learning curve ahead of the British American Football Association National Flag league. 

In their first ever game, the Thunder suffered a heavy 54-12 defeat to the Sheffield Vipers nut responded in excellent fashion, giving the Calderdale Knights one hell of a game before losing by one score 27-20.

In their final game, the Thunder battled hard but fell 31-0 to the Newcastle Blackhawks. A batism of fire for the Thunder players, but one which the lads will have learned greatly from and puts them in good stead for the 2014 season.

04/04/14 - The Northumberland Lightning has opened up a Recruitment Group on facebook with fantastic results. The club has gained 11 new members in just two days and is looking forward to introducing the new talent into the current roster.

30/03/14 - Northumberland Lightning Club founder Stuart Dick was part of the commentary team to cover the British Universities American Football League Finals day alongside Sky Sports NFL Pundit and former NFL full back Cecil Martin for Gridiron TV.
